Founded in the year 2010, the young chair for Persavive Computing Systems is working on development and integration of modern information and communication technologies into the physical environment. The head of the group is Prof. Michael Beigl, holder of the Shared New Field Professorship of KIT and SAP. Studies and teachings of the chair are focusing on wireless sensor-networks, recognition of context and activity on mobile terminal devices and Human-Computer-Interaction (HCI). Part of the chair is the industry-related development group TECO, which is researching on the topic of Pervasive Computing Systems since 1994.

Yong Ding won the tender for the Software Campus with his project. The first eleven students of the initiative were officially welcomed at the sixth IT summit of the Federal Government in the presence of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. With the launch the initiators want to resolve the shortage of IT executives. Likewise present were inter alia the CEOs of SAP (Jim Hagemann Snabe) and Telekom (Rene Obermann).
